About the Founder
Tammy Kniffin, M.Ed. is the President and Founder of the Global Alliance of Special Needs Support.
For the past twenty five years Tammy has worked extensively with children, whether as a volunteer, a preschool director, a school teacher or school counselor. She is also the parent of two children with special needs. One of her children has an autism spectrum disorder and the other has ADHD, as well as learning difficulties.
Her training and background is in early childhood education, special education and school counseling. She has been the director of a preschool for autistic children, taught special education at the high school and elementary school levels and been a school counselor in both elementary and middle schools. Prior to that she served in the full time campus ministry for her church and taught women’s classes. She has a Masters Degree in Education (Guidance and Counseling) from Wichita State University in Wichita, KS and a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education from Kansas State University. She is also a certified special education teacher having studied at the University of North Texas Graduate School.
She is active in her church, local community, and non-profit organizations that fit with her life purpose. She has had a passion for special needs children since she was a young child herself, not knowing how close to home this would be for her.
Tammy has been happily married to Mike for almost 27 years and is the proud (and very busy) mother of Taylor, Zachary and Emi. Buddy (a Chiweenie) and Sadie (a Dauschaund) complete their family.
Our founder and president is bringing her education, her passion for children, her experiences, and many lessons learned to you. Her hope is that you will be able to learn from her, connect with other parents and connect with professionals who can lighten your load and encourage your heart as you travel this journey with your child.
Tammy’s goal is that we will truly form an alliance that will serve our children well for many years to come.
Mission Statement
An alliance is an agreement between two or more parties, made in order to advance common goals and to secure common interests.
To this end the Global Alliance of Special Needs Support was born.
The primary mission of GASNS is “connecting parents and professionals” in support of individuals with special needs. Our goal is to create a community where we provide information, support, resources, inspiration and connections for parents and others who have someone in their life with learning differences, different abilities or other issues that present unique challenges to everyday life. These may include ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disabilities, Down-Syndrome, or any number of other difficulties that impact your family.
Many of the moms (and dads) we know would love the opportunity to work a flexible schedule that allows them to pursue their passion, be involved in the activities of their children, make a good (or great!) income and meet the needs of their families. This then is our secondary purpose in creating this community. We will offer an additional program in the near future to assist you if that is one of your goals. We are excited for each and every one of you to have the opportunity to share your brilliance with the world. *Watch for more information about this on our site.
GASNS will bring you information from the latest research and development in the field as well as tele-seminars where we bring the experts to you! Support will come in many forms including a monthly newsletter from our Founder and President. We will provide resources you can use starting now that have been developed to facilitate success in the home, community and school settings. Our blog and newsletter will provide inspiration as well as information. You will have the opportunity to form connections with others who support someone with special needs and with experts in such areas as social skills training, assessment in schools and behavior therapy.
My name is Tammy Kniffin and I am the Founder and CEO of the Global Alliance of Special Needs Support. I am so glad you are here joining us on this journey to secure a bright future for you and your child!
